He knew he could take him down, if it came to that. The guy was a monstrosity, but not invincible, and the world would be better off without him. Even so, was it wise to confront him? Or was it better just to leave him alone?
Robert was an inveterate survivor, but he had been on the mountain for five days and even he had to admit that his resources were flagging. A storm was closing in, and he had an important question to answer. Should he soldier on? Or should he rest before making the final push to the summit?
Tom was very bad at making up his mind about things. Last year, he didn't get his girlfriend a present for her birthday because he couldn't decide what to get, which made her angry. So this year, she gave him three hints about what she would like and an ultimatum--buy the right gift, or get another girlfriend.
She thought: Can a poet vanquish a nation? No, but can she overcome the heart of a single, solitary person? Two, maybe? And that can make all the difference.
