The Book

When she gave it to him as a birthday present, she said, "It will change your life." Now there it sat, on his bedside table, daring him to touch it. If it were a loaded gun, it could not have been more dangerous. "My life is just fine," he said to the thin volume, which showed a photograph of a finger on the cover, pointing at him. "It doesn't need changing."

The Bohemian

She thought: Can a poet vanquish a nation? No, but can she overcome the heart of a single, solitary person? Two, maybe? And that can make all the difference.

The Worm

She loved him, but what he had said to her once, in a heated moment, ate at her brain like a parasitic worm, its voracious appetite devouring her happiness. She had to kill the painful memory of it once and for all, but how?

The Goon

He knew he could take him down, if it came to that. The guy was a monstrosity, but not invincible, and the world would be better off without him. Even so, was it wise to confront him? Or was it better just to leave him alone?

The Friend

A friend? Is that what you call a friend? He promised! He promised, and now, when things are not quite what we expected, where is he?

Wrong

It was wrong, just wrong. No one should be allowed to say things like that. No one.
